WHO IS PSM? - Talking points

The terror attack at ‘Mike's Place' Jazz bar in Tel Aviv in April 2003 was carried out by two British Muslim suicide bombers, who used their status as ISM activists to easily pass the border crossing between Gaza and Israel.
Campus groups affiliated with the Palestinian Solidarity Movement function as the American campus arm of the International Solidarity Movement. They disguise themselves as members of ISM while in Israel and they are again members of PSM upon returning to US campus. (This relationship was highlighted at the Second Annual Conference of the Palestinian Solidarity Movement, held at the University of Michigan in October 2002, and at which Adam Shapiro - a founder of ISM - was a featured speaker. It was here that the delegates to the Palestinian Solidarity conference voted to formalize their support of the International Solidarity Movement. [Report on conference])
Shadi Sukiya, a senior member of the Islamic Jihad (an organisation defined as a terrorist organisation by US administration), was arrested in March 2003 by IDF troops while hiding in the offices of the ISM, the International Solidarity Movement in Jenin.
Last year, the Palestinian Solidarity Movement scheduled its National Conference for Rutgers. University. President Richard McCormick took a careful look at the goals and methods of this movement, which sends volunteers to Israel where they work in co-ordination with terror organizations Hamas and Islamic Jihad, and, in the words of the New Jersey Star Ledger (Sept. 13, 2003) "kicked the meeting off campus". Whether kicked them or not, the fact is; Rutgers found a way to keep PSM out of campus. The Conference was held at the Ramada Inn, freedom of speech was upheld, and Rutgers did not lend its name and prestige to a Movement that condones terrorism as an appropriate method for resolving political conflicts.
At Rutgers, the organisers of the 3rd PSM Conference in October 2003, the New Jersey Solidarity Movement -- an offshoot of the International Solidarity Movement -- hung a large banner painted in Palestinian colors in the Student Center that read "From the River to the Sea, Palestine will be Free." This is a Hamas slogan, popular both among Palestinians and within the ISM, calling for the destruction of the State of Israel.[Click here for pictures and text] and Hamas is defined as a terrorist organisation by US administration.
The leader of New Jersey Solidarity and organiser of last year's PSM Conference, Charlotte Kates, when asked in an interview with the New York Post about suicide bombings, told implicitly that she, as well as her organisation support Palestinian suicide bombing. "Palestinian resistance in all its forms has been a very powerful tool of justice," said Kates, 23, a Rutgers law student. "All forms, from armed struggle to mass protest." And does Israel have a right to exist? Kates's answer: "Israel is an apartheid, colonial settler state. I do not believe apartheid, colonial settler states have a right to exist." [Click here for article] By pointedly making a statement refusing to condemn terror, PSM gives a clear message to their supporters, whilst still remaining within the letter of the law regarding incitement to violence. it's a cynical ploy which should be exposed.
Palestinian terrorists murdered American students too, and ISM accept this as "armed struggle"!
July 31, 2002, Jerusalem, Israel. Seven people including four Americans, Marla Bennett (24) of San Diego, California, David Gritz (24) of Peru, Massachusetts, Benjamin Blutstein (25) of Susquehanna Township, Pennsylvania and Janis Ruth Coulter (36) from New York were murdered when a remote-controlled bomb detonated in the Frank Sinatra Cafeteria on Jerusalem's Hebrew University Mt. Scopus campus. Eighty-six others were injured.

At the 2nd PSM Conference at the University of Michigan in October 2002, delegates chanted "Kill the Jews" - "Ittbach al yahood" in Arabic. Swastikas were painted on the Hillel and the AE Pi fraternity house, whilst the conference was taking place. Both are illegal under US and EU law.
