To The Secretary General
His Excellency, Mr. Kofi Anan
The United Nations
Fax (212) 963-7055
Sir
Your well meant TV advice to Israel, to negotiate with Hamas rather than
pre-empt their terror attacks, is unfortunately unrealistic for the simple
reason that Hamas completely rejects any solution other than the
destruction of Israel. Article 13 of its covenant unambiguously states
"Initiatives, and so-called peaceful solutions and international
conferences, are in contradiction to the principles of the Islamic
Resistance Movement. There is no solution for the Palestinian question
except through Jihad. Initiatives, proposals and international conferences
are all a waste of time and vain endeavors".
That this attitude remains a guiding principle of Hamas was confirmed by
Hamas leader Dr. Rantisi who told NY Times journalist Joel Binkley, "We in
Hamas believe peace talks will do no good. We do not believe we can live
with the enemy.'"
It was, therefore, patently impossible to have negotiated a peaceful
solution with a leader like Yassin who founded a movement which generates
terror by spreading fanciful conspiracy theories, bordering on
megalomania. One almost amusing example of this irrationality, which you
Sir, will appreciate better than most, relates to the very organization
over which you preside. Article 22 of the Hamas covenant categorizes the
UN and the Security Council as creations of, and ruled by, Zionists.
In the light of the above and the following facts of which you appear to
be unaware, I urge you to please reconsider your outright condemnation of
Israel for the assassination of Sheik Yassin. I ask this , because of the
very real danger, that by condemning Israel while ignoring the sins of
Yassin and Hamas, terror movements world wide will interpret the lack of
balance as approval of their dastardly activities by none other than the
UN..
That Hamas leaves absolutely no room for peaceful negotiation is confirmed
in article 13 of its covenant which unambiguously states "Initiatives, and
so-called peaceful solutions and international conferences, are in
contradiction to the principles of the Islamic Resistance Movement. .There
is no solution for the Palestinian question except through Jihad.
Initiatives, proposals and international conferences are all a waste of
time and vain endeavors.".
It is not surprising that Yassin was targeted by the Israelis. Hamas under
Yassin, has been responsible for some of the cruelest attacks on
uninvolved civilians, including the elderly, infants, invalids, Jews and
Arabs alike. Hamas is not merely suspected of these terror attacks, it
proudly and publicly claims responsibility in the media.
In the NY times April 4, 2003, journalist Joel Brinkley reported on an
interview with four Hamas leaders. Mahmoud al-Zahar told Brinkley with a
smile.. "Forty were killed and 200 injured in just two operations.,"
Another told Brinkley proudly that Hamas was using weapons-grade
explosives. Removing doubt about a distinction between the political and
military wing of Hamas, Dr. Rantisi, said that, to generate attacks, he
makes public statements that are heard by his followers, as he did
recently when he said in a television interview: 'The gates of resistance
are open totally.' Those statements are heard by Hamas' military wing, he
says, 'and they listen because we are the political leaders."
During the 45-minute interview in Yassin's compound, aides twice brought
him urgent news about developments in Ramallah, and he issued clear,
direct orders.
"On the night of the Passover attack, Dr. Zahar released a statement
saying it was intended in part to shut down the cease-fire negotiations
then under way, directed by Gen. Anthony C. Zinni, the American special
envoy.
In these and the following circumstances I trust Sir, that you will accept
that the execution of Sheik Yassin was fully justified and serves the
interests of the international struggle against terror.
That Hamas is a threat even to moderate Arab states is demonstrated by the
fact that it has been outlawed in Jordan. The UN ignores at its peril, the
danger to the Western way of life posed by Hamas. While its immediate goal
is the violent destruction of Israel, this is only a first step towards
the ultimate goal of Islamic fundamentalists to impose Islamic rule on all
infidels world wide by means of Jihad, a religious war against all
infidels. Jihad is not directed only against Jews, but against all
infidels. An infidel or kafir, according to the Koran refers to an
unbeliever or an idolater, that is a person who does not believe
specifically in the revelations of God to the Prophet Mohamed. Jews,
Christians, Buddhists and all other non Muslims are all regarded as
infidels.
Hamas with its dedication to imposing Islamic rule, regards even the PLO
as insufficiently dedicated to Islam. Article Twenty-Seven of the Hamas
covenant spells it out. "The day the Palestinian Liberation Organization
adopts Islam as its way of life, we will become its soldiers, and fuel for
its fire will burn the enemies. Until such a day, and we pray to Allah
that it will be soon, the Islamic Resistance Movement's stand towards the
PLO is that of the son towards his father, the brother towards his
brother, and the relative to relative, suffers his pain and supports him
in confronting the enemies, wishing him to be wise and well-guided."
The promise of loot for those who are successful in battle and heavenly
reward for the slain which has been used so successfully to seduce
gullible youngsters to become suicide bombers is derived directly from the
Koran. "God is sponsor for him who goeth forth to fight on the road of God
(Sabilu llah). If he be not killed, he shall return to his house with
rewards and booty, but if he be slain, he shall be taken to Paradise."
The imaginative irrationality of the Hamas concept is illustrated by its
obsessive phobia about freemasons, rotary clubs, Lions and similar
organizations which are mentioned in no less than three of the articles of
the covenant. Article 17 dealing with the role of the Muslim woman warns
That is why you find them giving these attempts constant attention through
information campaigns, films, and the school curriculum, using for that
purpose their lackeys who are infiltrated through Zionist organizations
under various names and shapes, such as Freemasons, Rotary Clubs,
espionage groups and others, which are all nothing more than cells of
subversion and saboteurs&. The day Islam is in control of guiding the
affairs of life, these organizations, hostile to humanity and Islam, will
be obliterated.
Article 22 accuses these groups of everything from control of the world
media, news agencies, the press, publishing houses and broadcasting
stations, stirring the French Revolution, the Communist revolution and
most other revolutions They are alleged to have formed secret societies,
such as Freemasons, Rotary Clubs, the Lions and others in different parts
of the world for the purpose of sabotaging societies and achieving Zionist
interests, controlling imperialistic countries and instigating them to
colonize many countries to enable them to exploit their resources and
spread corruption.
..They were behind World War I, when they were able to destroy the Islamic
Caliphate, making financial gains and controlling resources. They obtained
the Balfour Declaration, formed the League of Nations through which they
could rule the world. They were behind World War II, &It was they who
instigated the replacement of the League of Nations with the United
Nations and the Security Council to enable them to rule the world through
them .
Article Twenty-Eight again refers to espionage operations on the secret
organizations it gave rise to, such as the Freemasons, The Rotary and
Lions clubs, and other sabotage groups. .. It is behind the drug trade and
alcoholism in all its kinds so as to facilitate its control and expansion.
It is perfectly obvious that the horrible acts of terror carried out by
Hamas are motivated not by any intention to arrive at a resolution of the
conflict, but by irrational fanatical considerations. In the
circumstances, it is difficult to conceive any alternative defensive
action, which Israel could have logically taken.
Sincerely
Maurice Ostroff
