Sub: Israel vs. Syria: Even-handedness between the fire-fighter and the
fire (to your Editorial 7 October)
Madam,
Upbraiding Israel for bombing a terrorist camp in Syria (Editorial 7
October) displays a lofty even-handedness but, as Churchill remarked, one
does not have to be even-handed between the fire-fighter and the fire.
Syria defiantly shelters Palestinian terrorist leaders - openly admitted
in 2002 by Jibril Rajoub, the Palestinian security chief. The wonder is
that Israel has shown forbearance for so long, while Israeli children on
school buses and Israeli families at cafes (Arab as well as Jewish) have
been callously slaughtered by the Syrian-backed production line of
brain-washed Palestinian fanatics that starts when Palestinian nursery
school children are taught deliberately to aspire to suicide (Matthew
Kalman in the Evening Standard).
If Syria desires immunity from its inhumanity, president Bashir Assad and
his brutally repressive regime must end complicity in the hosting,
training, arming and financing of the terror groups behind the sickening
atrocities inflicted on his neighbour's citizens.
