After celebrating Pesach, the people of Israel's Exodus from ancient Egypt ("Mitzrayim" in Hebrew) 3,500 years ago, in order to reach Kana'an - the land of Israel today -
this Independence Day, on April 26, 2012 Israel is 64 years young. 'Am Israel Hay!' Israel, live well forever!
After only 64 years (and, to tell the truth, after the 3500 years history before) Israel has achievements in unbelieveable quantity and quality. Let's have a short look at some of these in only three minutes.
Israel is one of the smallest countries on earth, with a population of 7.5 million people (1 promil of the world population) and with a territory of 0.2 promil only of all land on earth. However, Israel is among the greatest countries and nations in many fields; with unprecedented human, social, economic and scientific achievements.
Beyond accepting millions of Jews, young and old, well-off and very poor alike, Israel was the first in the world to give shelter to the Vietnamese boat people in the 80-ies and to Darfur refugees in recent years. Israel is 'the start-up nation' in medical developments and in hitec technologies alike. The small land of Israel has a unique landscape, with wonderful long sea beaches, a snow covered peak and the Dead Sea - the deepest spot on earth, all these within a few hours drive. Its flourishing agricultural areas across the country have been recovered in the past one hundred years by hard work, endless invention and irrigation, mostly from semi-deserts and swamps. (Bthw, also by treating 93% of its waste water for secondary use, a world record before the second country, Spain, with 24% rate).
