To the Scotsman: Were killed or Assassinated?! Terror, or state terror?

I refer to news pieces from Baghdad, most recently 21 April ( "Allies kill third al-Qaeda leader in Iraq") concerning the 'deaths' of top-ranking al-Qaeda figures on Sunday and the report that Iraqi and US troops had 'killed' a regional al-Qaeda figure yesterday. So, these terrorist leaders 'died' or were 'killed'; their demise was not due to 'targeted killing' or 'state assassination'. Isn't it curious how language heats up by several degrees when the deaths of terrorists in Judea, Samaria and Gaza are reported, and when the defence forces of Israel are involved.
